Ecotourism and Heritage Summer Voluntary Activities for Adults and Young People
26th April 2010
APARE, the Association pour la Participation et L'Action Regionale, organises restoration summer camps for young people (ages 16-17) and adults (age 18+). These restoration camps take place at heritage sites of natural or architectural interest, in partnership with national, regional and local authorities of France.
In addition, APARE offers opportunities at seven Euro-Mediterranean Campuses for the Environment and Sustainable Development, including locations in Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and France. Euro-Mediterranean campuses are multi-disciplinary, international study workshops aimed at serving a specific territory. They involve around fifteen students or young professionals from Europe and Mediterranean countries. Benefits of the campuses include: an introduction to a professional work situation with the expectation of a useful, objective result; an opportunity for learning to work in a multidisciplinary team; and an original way of discovering a country and a culture.
Programmes last from 2-3 weeks and cost as little as €60, including room and board. Programs are usually conducted in French with some conversation in English. For more information, visit the website.

Thanks so much guys - if you're thinking of moving the team at Volunteering Ireland highly recommend them!

Failte Isteach looking for older volunteers to welcome migrants through English classes
30th March 2010
Fáilte Isteach is a community project with older volunteers welcoming new migrants through conversational English classes. It is a unique project which utilises the skills, talents and expertise of older volunteers and harnesses their desire to contribute positively to society.
Fáilte Isteach works at breaking down the barriers that migrants and communities face by extending the hands of friendship and goodwill through the practical, welcoming and inclusive manner in which the programme is delivered. It is providing more than the transfer of skills and knowledge. It is making a positive difference to everyone involved.
Fáilte Isteach currently has 18 centres nationwide. We have 194 volunteer tutors teaching conversational English classes to, on average, 400 new migrants from 53 different countries each week. Fáilte Isteach classes are starting shortly in Tralee and Castlebar.
If you are interested in getting involved, or know an older person who would be interested in volunteering you can find more information on the Failte Isteach website.
You can also see more about the project on this RTE news report.
