Lorraine Tansey, Chair
Lorraine is the Student Volunteer Coordinator of the Community Knowledge Initiative based within the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the National University of Ireland Galway. As the coordinator of the ALIVE programme, Lorraine has written the Volunteering Guide and ALIVE Handbook to support over five hundred student volunteers and contributed to the 2006 Galway City Partnership Toolkit for Community and Voluntary Groups. In the past Lorraine has volunteered all over the US and received recognition from various bodies. Lorraine’s current interests include civic engagement and higher education, service learning, and human rights.
Claire Connaughton
Claire is Volunteer Co-ordinator with Children in Hospital Ireland a nationwide organisation promoting the welfare of sick children. She co-ordinates the recruitment, training and on-going support of a network of "PlayWell” Volunteers in sixteen hospital around Ireland. She has been involved in the voluntary and community sector for over 20 years both as a volunteer and board member. Claire joined the steering committee in 2004 and currently represents the Leinster region."
Sinead Hardiman
Sinéad joined Barnardos as the Volunteer Development Manager in November 2007. The role involves the management of the volunteer programme for the organisation, including recruitment and selection, training and support to volunteers. Sinéad has worked in the community sector for over ten years in rural development, education, and community health , and directly in the management of volunteers for five years.
Linda Keane
Linda has worked in The Galway Association which provides services for people with an intellectual disability since 1984. She was appointed Co-ordinator of Volunteers in September 2004. There are over 150 volunteers in the Association’s Volunteer Programme who are involved in a variety of roles within the organisation including befriending and assisting in programmes at service level. She is also involved in branch activity at local level. Linda is a member of the Galway Volunteer Centre Management Committee which will open its doors in the near future.
Paul Martyn
Paul Martyn is the Volunteer Education National Co-Ordinator for the FAI.
Elaine Bradley
Elaine has been the CEO of Volunteering Ireland since April 2007. Before taking up the post as CEO of VI Elaine worked as a consultant, specialising in the enhancement of capability and strategic development of organisations in the nonprofit sector through a range of interventions including organisational development and change management. Elaine has extensive experience in the community and voluntary sector in both a paid and voluntary capacity. She worked for nine years in the disability sector, then in Focus Ireland and the Homeless Agency. She is currently the vice-chair of One Family. Elaine holds a degree in training and education from NUI Galway and an MSc (Business) in Organisational Behaviour from Trinity College.
Jessica Ryan
Jessica, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina in the United States, has recently become the Project Development Manager with Volunteering Ireland. Her first year in Ireland was spent working as the Local Programme Volunteer Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity Ireland as part of an International Volunteer Programme. She has also volunteered with various organisations both in Ireland and the U.S. Her previous work experience in the for-profit sector is varied and includes graphic design, event coordination, teaching and marketing. She has a bachelor’s degree from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
